Wouldn't surprise me if they didn't start back up when you connect a WM device. In Vista, without WAD, you can actually connect a device and browse it and copy files to and from via the standard explorer. If you get the cab file for WM programs you can copy that over and load (install) directly on the device.

got importent files on the harddrive that i need and Vista wont load. Why not boot a Linux Live CD and retrieve the data you're interested in? Knoppix or Elive would do that very easily. Ive searched all over and only found it on a few torrentsites but there are no seeders. I dont want to lose all the pictures

Wrong again Vista!
I checked and I haven't had any failed Windows update installations and my most recent updates were installed yesterday. I have tried using WGADiag2.exe file, didn't help. I have seen instructions for modifying the registry, but they are all for XP and I have Vista, so I don't want to go ahead and try that.

Installation menu wont load.

Programs wont load
Using Windows Update - I sucessfully installed Internet Explorer, but SP4 pack fails repeatedly. svcpack.log says: "Apply failed: c: <temp>\download\ntdll. I may be wrong, but is it likely that all these other apps would load & run, but the Winn2k SP2>SP4 upgrade should fail on a hardware error?

Both universities here refuses to load Vista on campus, simply because it does not want to deal with all the problems that comes with it. Two people which I know, removed Vista and installed XP. Vista is still at least 1 year away before we can say it is stable and bug free. Just my observation of Vista.

As said, the key point is: they all load the boot sector of the active partition. So when you install xp after vista, the key point is to restore the boot sector. If you don't, you can write all the MBRs you want, they won't fix your problem. No one has said that only the MBR had to be changed to "fix your problem"

I installed Vista on the 320gb hard drive, but unless the 120gb hard drive is connected it wont load vista up. I have looked on the 120gb hard drive and there appears to be a bootsect.bak file of 8kb which after reading around on the net, seems to be something to do with the boot options.

I am not sure if this was the way things were meant to be because I had to install XP first before I installed Vista, or what. when I originally set this configuration up, but insofar, I've enjoyed Vista, and the deal with ActiveSync is the first time I've needed to even load XP since I first set everything up.
